“50 First Dates”
This is a brilliant 2004 film that revolves around a character named Henry, a marine veterinarian who lives in Hawaii and ends up falling in love with a girl named Lucy.
But he soon discovers that Lucy suffers from short-term memory loss due to a major car accident. This means she forgets everything that happened the day before. Henry has to win her heart over and over again, as she wakes up with no recollection of what happened in their past interactions.
To guide Lucy to remember, Henry makes a video diary for her to watch every morning explaining her condition and their relationship. The film beautifully showcases the lengths to which Henry goes to make Lucy fall in love with him repeatedly, underscoring themes of love. This movie perfectly captures the spirit of love and dedication.
“How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days”
This classic rom-com from 2003 is about a magazine reporter, Addie, who is tasked to write an article about how to lose a guy in 10 days. She chooses a man named Benjamin who makes a bet that he can make any woman fall in love with him in 10 days. Addie is his target.
As Addie tries to drive Ben away with several tactics, such as acting very clingy and creating unnecessary drama, Ben is still determined to win his bet.
Despite their initial intentions, the two slowly develop feelings for one another and wind up together. This movie has a unique storyline that keeps the viewers engaged.
“To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before”
This 2018 film is a charming three-part movie series that explains the story of a girl named Lara Jean who wrote secret love letters to her past crushes.
Written and directed by Jenny Han, the movie follows a very unexpected series of events after the letters are suddenly sent out. One of these events includes a fake relationship with a character named Peter, a recipient of one of the love letters.
As the two navigate through their pretend relationship, they bond and create genuine feelings for each other. The two sequels continue through their love story. This movie is a very heartwarming and enjoyable to watch about young love that has its challenges.
“27 Dresses”
This amazing 2008 rom-com tells a story about a young journalist named Jane who has been a bridesmaid 27 times. She has many unique bridesmaid dresses stuffed inside her New York apartment closet to prove it.
The movie follows Jane as she helps organize her sister’s wedding to the man Jane is secretly in love with. Throughout the movie, she meets a fellow charming journalist named Kevin, who is intrigued by Jane’s perpetual bridesmaid status and becomes interested in her wedding-planning lifestyle.
Along the way, Jane learns to stand up for herself and discovers that true love might be closer to her than she really thinks. This movie is great to watch on Valentine’s Day as it has entertaining content that keeps viewers laughing with its jokes and romantic theme.
“Just Go With It”
This 2011 movie follows the story of Danny, a successful plastic surgeon who pretended to be unhappily married as he wears a ring on his finger. Danny does this so he can avoid commitment in a relationship.
In the beginning of the movie, viewers are given a flashback of Danny that provides a good backstory to understand his decision on why he still wears a ring on his finger.
Finally, Danny meets Palmer, the woman of his dreams. But she finds his fake wedding ring and assumes he is married. To cover up his lie, Danny convinced his loyal assistant, Katherine, to pose as his soon-to-be ex-wife. As this act begins, they all end up on a trip to Hawaii, where Danny and Katherine’s fake relationship starts to feel real. This movie showcases hilarious situations and messy moments as Danny learns about real love and honesty, making it a great choice for this season.

Sofie is a freshman and it's her first year being in newspapers and she's excited to be a part of the elective. She wants to better herself in different writing skills and she wants to meet new connections as well. She has recently joined the Cal High Varsity Song Team (which is a competitive dance team) . She's nervous but mostly excited since she is 1 out of 2 freshmans on the team. Sofie enjoys hanging out with her friends, baking, dancing, shopping and overall having fun. She loves dancing and has been dancing for 8.5 years and has been dancing competitively for 5 years. She just left her studio so she can succeed in her academics and her dance team. Her favorite foods are chips, ice cream, sushi, nuggets and fries, celsius, boba, and pizza. She has two brothers and two sisters and she is the youngest. One of her brothers goes to CHS and is a junior. Sofie can't wait to begin her upcoming high school years at CHS.
