The bright, sunny and dangerous shores of the Outer Banks are back this week with the final five episodes of Season 4.
Ironically released in the middle of fall, this summer-based show is back on Thursday as the gang returns for the second half of Netflix’s fourth season of “Outer Banks.”
The series has captured the hearts of viewers with a solid blend of adventure and a hint of romance driving the story. Season 4 took a bit of a different approach, with the first five episodes streaming on Oct. 10.
The first five episodes of the new season picked up where Season 3 left off in February 2023, sucking viewers right back into the unrealistic lives of our main characters, John B (Chase Stokes), Sarah (Madeline Cline), Kiara (Madison Bailey), Pope (Jonathan Daviss), Cleo (Carlacia Grant), and pretty boy fan-favorite JJ (Rudy Pankow).
The aftermath of their adventures in treasure hunting draws them deeper down the rabbit hole of secrets, betrayals and, of course, the pursuit of treasure. The action ramps up as the group comes across new enemies and old ones as well. The show is filled with cliffhangers that keep viewers on the edge of their seats.
One of the high points of this season’s plot (without spoiling too much) is in character development. John B is stepping up with more responsibilities, while Sarah is finding a delicate balance between her newfound independence and loyalty with the Pogues, the less uber rich of the universe.
They also built a neighborhood for themselves and others called “Poguelandia”. This is for everyone to live in peace and harmony, what could possibly go wrong with a bunch of rowdy teenagers living in the same area?
Their romance adds a whole other layer of tension to the equation. Kiara has her own personal burden, as does Pope and JJ, making this ensemble stronger than ever.
Visually, this series is absolutely stunning. With luscious landscapes of the Outer Banks in North Carolina serving as a perfect backdrop for the unfolding drama on screen. It is not just the beauty of the location that the show has captured, but also the intensity of action sequences, which are amped up pretty high this season.
From thrilling chases to heart-pounding confrontations, the production team has created a visual masterpiece that matches the adventurous spirit of the show.
Nevertheless, even the greatest shows have their flaws. At times, the show’s plot twists lean into confusion with so many competing subplots, one of which includes, for some strange reason, breakout NFL star Bijan Robinson. Robinson, a running back for the Atlanta Falcons, plays a pirate seeking the same treasure as our main characters. This storyline happens to dilute the plot, creating confusion for viewers new to the show.
Although “Outer Banks” is without a doubt entertaining, the constant twists and turns incorporated into the main story often make it a struggle for viewers to find their way back to the central narrative.
So far, the fourth season of “Outer Banks” strikes a pretty good balance between nostalgia and fresh intrigue right off the bat. The result is a semi-entertaining mix of treasure hunts, romance, and constant danger that reconfirms the show’s status as one of the teen drama greats.
But what viewers were left with after Episode 5 was a pretty big cliffhanger, leading fans and viewers wanting more from the show. They get it this week.
