“Oh, I leave quite an impression,” Sabrina Carpenter has said.
Indeed she has.
With the launch of her latest album, “Short ‘n Sweet”, Carpenter’s fans are in an uproar.
“Sabrina Carpenter’s new album is actually amazing,” sophomore Lucy Holden, a fan of Carpenter, said. “The way Sabrina’s voice sings almost romanticizes her music in such a pretty way that I’m actually in love.”
The 12-song album includes some of the summer’s most popular songs, such as ”Espresso” and “Please Please Please”. As a relatively new Carpenter fan, I am enjoying this album maybe a bit too much.
Here’s a breakdown of some of my favorite songs on the album.
“Good Graces”
One of the exclusive songs for the album, “Good Graces” is just a masterpiece. The contrast of Carpenter’s lyrics in which she’d tell her partner to stay on her good side rather harshly, and the sweet upbeat melody, have left me playing it every chance I get.
“Espresso”
I have listened to “Espresso” too many times. It has a chokehold on me. I really like the song’s catchy lyrics and beat. It’s everything fans would expect from Carpenter. This song was also what got me to start enjoying her music.
“Bed Chem”
It is with quite the heavy heart that I say for the next week, I will not be saying anything but, “Who’s the cute boy with the white jacket and the thick accent?”
I really love “Bed Chem” because of its slow, almost dreamlike vibe. We don’t talk too much about the lyrics and what it hints at.
“Don’t Smile”
The thing that I like about “Don’t Smile” is it’s basically Carpenter crying over her partner not reacting to their breakup the way she wants.
I mean come on, she’s singing to him to not smile that it happened, but instead cry that it happened and ended. It’s a nice slow song, with the melody going against the lyrics.
“Slim Pickins”
Maybe it’s the slightly negative comments about her relationship, or just the soundtrack, but “Slim Pickings” I can sort of enjoy. I mean, there’s not a lot to say about it, but I still find it to be a good song.
“Sharpest Tool”
Oh how we love songs that question relationships. Forget songs about current romances and relationships that ended poorly, songs about judging current partners are my kryptonite. In “Sharpest Tool”, Carpenter questions her relationship with her partner and sings about the decision to not talk about it.
“Coincidence”
Well well well, what a nice song. After a little internet sleuthing, I learned “Coincidence” might have been written to call out a certain celebrity she used to date.
The whole time I listened to it, Carpenter writing a song about her partner’s ex popping back up into her life out of nowhere, getting more comfy with him, and eventually breaking up with him again was not on my list. It was a welcome surprise though. Good song, I really do like it.
Regardless of which song is your favorite, there’s no denying that “Short ‘n Sweet” is the masterpiece of Carpenter’s growing musical career.
