Third Star Wars trilogy comes to an end
Continuing as the December tradition, another Star Wars movie is heading to a galaxy nearby. Or the local multiplex.
“The Rise of Skywalker”, which comes out on Friday at midnight, definitely has expectations to live up to as the finale of the Skywalker story.
Unfortunately, the anticipation for the ninth film in this series that dates back to 1977 is not as high as usual. That is mostly because of the fans’ disappointment in the 2017 “The Last Jedi”.
Fans have many ideas about what they want to see in the new film.
“More character development and a good storyline,” sophomore Zubin Gotla said.
This reflects on one of the main complaints fans had about “The Last Jedi.”
Sophomores Logan Smith and Jace Lee also want to see more action sequences.
“I want to see Rey use her lightsaber more,” Lee said.
There’s been a fair share of fan backlash since “The Last Jedi” for numerous reasons. The most popular reason is the sudden changes in Luke Skywalker’s personality.
Most people hope “The Rise of Skywalker” will be better because JJ Abrams is back as director. The last time we saw Abrams in the director’s chair was for “The Force Awakens”.
There has been one trailer released so far and it has a lot of interesting hints about what fans will see in the new film. The most exciting is the return of Emperor Palpatine.
Abrams had a couple of things to say about this rumor, as well as the ones about Anakin Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi returning, in a recent interview with Uproxx.
Abrams was asked, “It would be weird if Palpatine didn’t come back, so what about Anakin?” Abrams responded, “Perhaps the weirder thing would be if Palpatine didn’t return.”
Fans were excited to hear that as it could be a possible hint or confirmation.
The return of the Emperor has resulted in additional questions, such as: How did he survive? Is he a clone?
The entire cast from “The Last Jedi” returns, including the late Carrie Fisher with her final scenes as Princess Leia. Fisher’s inclusion adds to the inevitable emotions fans will have about this movie.
The title “The Rise of Skywalker” is an interesting one since fans don’t exactly know what it means since Luke died in the last movie. Who will this Skywalker be?
“I get tweets from people saying they will never catch another Star Wars film again. Well, I bet they do,” C-3PO star Anthony Daniels said in an interview with Express Online. “Everybody needs to see how it ends. And I hope they do.”
