Water Polo
The men’s and women’s water polo teams both won their first round games of the NCS playoffs last week.
The No. 5 seeded men (15-7) beat No. 12 Castro Valley 14-9 last Thursday at the Carondelet Athletics Complex. The Grizzlies played No. 4 Tamalpais last Saturday in the quarterfinals at Northgate High in Walnut Creek.
The No. 6 women (9-14)beat No. 11 Irvington 7-3 last Thursday. Cal faced No. 3 James Logan in last Saturday’s quarterfinals at Northgate.
Results of both games were not available before The Californian went to press.
The winner of the men’s game advanced to the semifinals today against the winner between No. 1 Acalanes and No. 8 Redwood.
The winner of the women’s game also moved on to the semifinals today against the winner of the quarterfinal game between No. 2 Amador Valley and No. 10 Napa.
The men’s team finished their season on a strong note, winning five of their last six games.
The women’s team also finished the season on a high note, winning four of their last six games, including a 9-2 victory over crosstown rival Dougherty Valley on the road.
