Undefeated Varsity Football Travels to Granada Friday Night
In another seemingly unbalanced match-up, Cal High’s varsity football team heads to Granada tonight for their first game against an EBAL opponent this season.
Cal comes into this game with a 4-0 record, while the Matadors are 1-3. The Grizzlies are in first place in the EBAL Mountain Division, while Granada stands in fourth place in the EBAL Valley Division. The game kicks off at 7 p.m.
The Grizzlies won last Friday against Heritage, 12-3, in another game that seemed to be unbalanced based on team records. Granada lost its most recent game against Foothill, 35-13.
In Cal’s game at Heritage on Sept. 20, Heritage came in with a record of 1-3 but gave the Grizzlies all they could handle.
Senior running back Daniel DeSoto scored on a one yard run in the first quarter to give Cal an early lead. Junior Tyler Jarvis caught a 59-yard pass from junior Nick Reid in the second quarter, taking the Grizzlies to Heritage’s 16-yard line. Junior Giovanni Phillips scored on a 7-yard TD run shortly thereafter for the team’s final points.
Senior Aaron Coll had nine tackles and two sacks, while DeSoto also had 10 tackles at strong safety.
