Noises in the Newsroom: What is your favorite holiday song?

Song: “Christmastime is Here”
Christmas songs have been haunting me since Nov. 29. In shops, on the radio, in the bathroom at restaurants, I can’t seem to escape Mariah Carey’s shrieks and the herald angels’ incessant harks.
Not to mention that most of these songs are, musically speaking, terrible. But even if I were to like one of them, I would soon grow to hate it due to the sheer amount of times I would have to hear it in the grocery store throughout December.
There is one, however, that has been somewhat passed over by the radio and is actually a really good song: the Charlie Brown Christmas song
“Christmastime Is Here” by the Vince Guaraldi Trio is by far the best holiday song that exists. Melodic yet slightly melancholic, this song perfectly captures the mood of winter.
So while the world spins on amidst barbaric holiday shopping and NutCracking, I find solace in Charlie Brown.

Song: “Grandma got run over by a Reindeer”
“Time of death 19:24, December 24, 2014. Name: Gam Gam. Cause of death: Reindeer”
It was Dec. 24, 2015, and these words still echoed through my head. The image of the lifeless vessel, laying impossibly still in the red stained snow still burned in mind.
She should’ve known better than to drink that much eggnog and walk home alone that snowy night.
Nevertheless, she left that night, to never to return again.
It could only have been one in the end. He had been feasting on the blood of grandmothers world wide for years now, and because of this, his nose has been stained permanently with a deep red.
The red, also symbolizing the color of Satan, Rudolph has become the Krampus of reindeer every year.
Now, whenever this song comes up, I am filled with anger and my hatred for reindeer is renewed.

Song: “Toxic”
December is a month of frigid cold and warm drinks, a month of celebration and consumerism.
The world seems to quiver with holiday joy, and if you sit quietly enough, you can hear sleigh bells jingling softly in the distance.
What better song to get you in the mood than “Toxic” by Britney Spears?
The song is simply oozing with holiday cheer with classic lyrics such as, “And I love what you do, don’t you know that you’re toxic?”
This song perfectly reflects the overbearing juxtaposition between spending gross amounts of money and being blessed under the lights of the heavens.
Beautiful.
Britney’s angelic voice can cut through the harshest of winds of winter and bring light into everyone’s heart, bringing families and friends closer together.

Song: Chanukah song
My favorite holiday song is the Chanukah song. The song is simple. It is Adam Sandler’s opinion of why Chanukah is so much better than Christmas.
It’s hilarious honestly. Who would have thought you could spin the dreidel with Kirk and Spock. In his own words, “This is a song that uhh..There’s a lot of Christmas songs out there and uhh..not too many Chanukah songs.”
Admittedly, I’ve never been a huge fan of Sandler, but I’ve always thought this song was one of his best works. Funny thing is, I first heard it when I went Christmas caroling.
The song goes out of its way to list Jewish celebrities and rhyme the words with traditional Chanukah pieces.
Except O.J. Simpson.
Whether you celebrate Christmas, Chanukah or anything else, this song is funukah and a favorite that I listen to every year. Mostly ironically.
OK, completely ironically.
