Mr. Cali is a big success
2016 edition of the famous Mr. Cali was filled with much laughter and fun moments
With 13 contestants, a new theme and many, many innuendoes, the annual Mr. Cali pageant came back to Cal High.
Mr. Cali is a male beauty pageant for seniors, complete with a theme, talent portion, suit fashion show, Q&A, and as two choreographed dances.
SeniorAlexandria Kroeckel served as the show’s an MC.
Three judges selected the winner of the pageant after tallying up the points they earned in the different catagories.
This year, the theme was once again months of the year, with an additional contestant being Mr. Leap Year.
Each candidate was introduced with biographies as they took turns coming onto the stage wearing clothes that represent their month.
After the contestants’ first dramatic choreographed dance to “Hello” by Adele, Mr. January and Mr. February, Troy Muzzio and Josh Shapland, respectively, kicked off the talent portion with not just any exercise, but soft jazzercise.
In tights, basketball shorts and swim tops, both contestants worked out to the music while doing a couple flips in the process.
Mr. March, Trevor Koehne, sang his versions of iconic songs, such as Bruno Mars’ “When I was your Man,” Jackson 5’s “I Want You Back,” and Justin Bieber’s “U Smile.”
Haidari took the stage, and proved that he wasn’t a square, but maybe a triangle.
That’s right, for about a minute and a half, Mr. June effortlessly played a triangle to the amusement of the audience.
With a guitar in his hands, Mr. September, Davis Bullock, appealed to the soft spots of the audience and sang a heartwarming country song while strumming his guitar to “Heroes” by Willie Nelson.
People in the audience turned on their phone lights and swayed to the rhythm.
Mr. October, David Lord, came on stage rapping about what makes his month so iconic, candy.
“Give me one, two, three, four, gotta get the best until my belly hit the floor,” senior David Lord rapped.
Next, the contestants came out for the suit fashion show, in which the suits were donated from Men’s Warehouse.
While in their suits, they answered the Q&A.
“I’d give it all to Ms. Kretch,” said Haidari, when asked what he would do with a million dollars, “She’s my favorite teacher.”
The night ended with a sassy dance to the beat of “Don’t Cha” by the Pussycat Dolls.
Finally, the judges chose a winner, and the moment everyone was waiting for arrived.
The winner of Mr. Cali 2016 was Mr. October, David Lord.
