‘Fuller House’ packed with laughs
Netflix launches sequel of classic 1990s sitcom ‘Full House’
The highly anticipated show “Fuller House” has finally released.
“Fuller House,” which debuted on Feb. 26, is an original Netflix series and the sequel to “Full House.”
A popular ’90s sitcom show, “Full House” followed the life of a widowed father, Danny Tanner (Bob Saget), who asks his brother-in-law, Jesse Katsopolis (John Stamos), and best friend, Joey Gladstone (Dave Coulier), to help him raise his three little girls.
Similarly, “Fuller House” chronicles the life of a recently widowed wife, DJ Tanner (Candace Cameron Bure).
DJ’s sister, Stephanie Tanner (Jodie Sweetin), and best friend, Kimmy Gibbler (Andrea Barber), reach out to DJ and help her raise her three sons (Michael Cmapion, Elias Harger, and Dashiell and Fox Messitt) when they see the struggle she experiencing taking care of the kids by herself.
The fans out there that have been teased and tortured with anticipation ever since the trailer released in December 2015 have never felt more joy and excitement.
The show takes place in the same old San Francisco home from the original series.
It begins as a family reunion and a majority of the main characters from that series have returned as much older actors, except for Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, who took turns playing the role of Michelle Tanner.
The Olsen twins have decided to pursue their career in the fashion industry.
This is understandable because they had starred in the original series as childhood actresses and might not have the same sentimental feelings that some of the older actors have.
But the “Full House” cast felt the need to call out the Olsen sisters. Stephanie arrives home after being away in England, now going by the same name of DJ Tanner, and asks where Michelle is.
Danny Tanner responds by saying that she is “busy in New York running her fashion empire,” and they all break the fourth wall as they turn to the camera with annoyed looks on their faces.
Many fans and actors are sad to see that the youngest Tanner sister will not return to the new spin-off series. Yes, the scene might have intended to be good-humored, but it didn’t exactly come across that way.
There is also an unusual amount of inappropriate jokes. Several comments are made about Stephanie’s cleavage, such as when she tells DJ’s little baby, “Hey my eyes are up here,” and “I know this might look like lunch, but this Dairy Queen is closed.” Lines like these have made some wonder why this family sitcom is G-rated on Netflix.
So let’s just leave it at this: If you are not a super fan of the original series, you will most likely not enjoy “Fuller House.”
A show based off of nostalgia includes many shot-for-shot re-enactments, such as the theme song, “Everywhere You Look” covered by Carly Rae Jepsen, accompanied with clips of the characters then and now. Also, catchphrases like “Cut! It! Out!” and “How rude!” have made a comeback. Many viewers who have not seen the previous series would not find any of the jokes amusing.
Overall, “Fuller House” was worse than expected. Since the sequel is so heavily based on knowledge of the previous show, it is not intended for viewers who haven’t watched “Full House.”
Even though the first episode wasn’t as pleasing as hoped to be, fans shouldn’t let it discourage them.
This show definitely didn’t satisfy most people, but hopefully it made some fans feel like the show never ended.
