Video games once again take holiday season by storm
With the holidays just around the corner, popular video game companies such as EA, Bethesda Softworks, Activision, and Square Enix began releasing big titles last month.
EA released “Need for Speed” on Nov. 3. This game guarantees that it will show off gorgeous racing graphics, but the game doesn’t meet up to the standards of the trailer with a 6.3/10 score on IGN.
The game has an undelivered multiplayer, no kind of pause button or pause mechanic, rubber band-like AI, and daft time-of-the night effects. “Need for Speed” determines to just be a one trick pony with the only enjoyable part of the game being the graphics and the sound while the rest is mediocre.
EA is also releasing the critically acclaimed “Star Wars: Battlefront” that Star Wars fans have been eagerly awaiting, along with the new movie.
Critics and fans both agree that the game pays great attention to detail, and has great modes but is very limited.
According to an IGN review, “Star Wars Battlefront captures everything I love most about Star Wars. It’s playful and imaginative, driven by a sense of adventure and fun above all else.”
“Star Wars: Battlefront” should to be a fun game overall, but not worthy of any big name awards. The galactic first and third-person shooter is priced at $59.99 for PS4, Xbox One, and Microsoft Windows.
Many fans are also excited about Bethesda’s release of “Fallout 4.”
Before the game’s release, many fans were happy about another part of their favorite open-world RPG, while some fans were uneasy after seeing leaked footage of the game believing the graphics to be rather poor. Some of those fans even canceled their pre-order for the game.
The reception of the game by critics on the day of its release was overwhelmingly positive with a 9.5/10 score on IGN, 9/10 score on GameSpot, and a 4.5/5 score on Metacritic.
The graphics are shown to be more stunning than fans gave it credit for, plus the gameplay is very entertaining and fun. A large majority of “Fallout” zealots were extremely satisfied with “Fallout 4” and the game received positive responses from fans the entire week of its release.
“Fallout 4” is available for PS4, Xbox One, and Windows.
Another open-world adventure coming out is “The Rise of Tomb Raider,” the sequel to the successful “Tomb Raider” released in 2013.
The game has proven itself to be another great Lara Croft title with beautiful graphics, exciting gameplay, and great adventure mechanics.
This epic action-adventure is for Xbox One, PS4, and Microsoft Windows for $59.99 while it will also be released for Xbox 360 for $49.99.
Activision released “Black Ops 3,” which has received good reviews from video game critics, claiming that great mileage, smooth mobility, and well designed multiplayer maps are available.
Fans, however, have disagreed with critics.
Players are saying the game’s lag that came with the update ruins the experience, indicating that it is very broken on the PC version.
While we look at these releases, it shows only the peak of the holiday game releases, games like the now critically popular “Xenoblade Chronicles X,” the psychological horror Steam phenomenon “Among the Sleep,” and Square Enix’s “Just Cause 3” are being released this month.
Video game fans rejoice.
