‘Super’ movies arriving in 2015 and 2016
Superhero movies will hit the big screen starting in May
Marvel and DC, two of the biggest comic book/movie industries, have a lot in store for us for the next two years.
Fans can look forward to tons of great new superhero movies that have never been done before, highly-anticipated sequels, and some cool remakes.
The first movie to come to theatres will be “Avengers: Age of Ultron” on May 1, the second movie adaptation of the Avengers series.
The first “Avengers” movie was a hit, and the second movie sounds like it will be just as good. All of the original Avengers will be returning, as well as Loki (Tom Hiddleston), who was the villain in the previous movie.
The Avengers reunite, this time to battle against an android known as Ultron (James Spader).
Twins Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch (Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Elizabeth Olsen, respectively) from the X-Men series will also be battling in the movie, but unfortunately for the Avengers, they will not be fighting on their side.
As if that wasn’t enough, Ultron creates The Vision (Paul Bettany, the same man who voices J.A.R.V.I.S., Stark’s electronic butler), another super-strong super villain who eventually switches sides.
After “Avengers” comes another Marvel movie, “Ant-Man”. It will be the first movie adaptation of the comic books, which revolve around Scott Lang (Paul Rudd).
After stealing the Ant-Man suit from its creator, Dr. Hank Pym (Michael Douglas), Scott Lang becomes Ant-Man, gaining the ability to “shrink in scale but increase in strength” (Marvel.com).
In the movie, Lang will need to use these abilities to help Dr. Pym protect the secret of the suit from enemies who want to use it for evil.
The movie will come to theatres on July 17.
In exactly one month after “Ant-man,” on Aug. 17, a remade version of “Fantastic Four” will be released.
It will be the third rebooted “Fantastic Four” movie to date. This time around, Sue Storm will be played by Kate Mara, Miles Teller will play Reed Richards (Mr. Fantastic), Ben Grimm (The Thing) will be played by Jamie Bell, and Michael B. Jordan has been cast as Johnny Storm (the Human Torch).
The movie will follow a group of mutated scientists who band together in an effort to save the world from a dangerous villain.
The first superhero movie of 2016 will be Marvel’s “Deadpool.”
Deadpool made his first film appearance as Wade Wilson, his true identity under the mask, in the movie “X-Men Origins: Wolverine.” There, he was one of the antagonists, played by Ryan Reynolds.
While there are no concrete facts about the plot for “Deadpool,” Ryan Reynolds has already confirmed that he will be returning to play Deadpool in the new movie, out Feb. 12, 2016.
Following “Deadpool”, DC will release “Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice.” It is intended to be the sequel to the 2013 “Man of Steel.”
Along with Batman (Ben Affleck) and Superman (Henry Cavill), Aquaman (Jason Momoa), and Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot) will join them in the fight. In this battle, the group of heroes band together, facing threats of Doomsday once again.
“Batman vs. Superman” releases on Mar. 25, 2016.
Following that, on May 6, Marvel will release the third installment to the “Captain America” series, “Captain America: Civil War.”
In the movie, the government plans to set regulations on all superhero activity. They want all superheroes to register themselves , therefore stripping them of their anonymity.
Tony Stark is a major character in the movie, as he is pro registration, whereas Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) is anti-registration.
It is also rumored that the Winter Soldier from the previous “Captain America” movie may return, as well as new characters like Falcon (Anthony Mackie) and Crossbones (Frank Grillo).
Next, Marvel will release it’s ninth X-Men adaptation (counting Deadpool), “X-Men: Apocalypse.” The cast will remain the same, although it has not yet been confirmed whether Hugh Jackman will star as Wolverine.
All that has been said about the plot of the movie is that the X-Men will be facing the villain known as Apocalypse, who will be played by Oscar Isaac. This movie will most likely end the trilogy that began with the movie “X-Men: First Class.”
It is set to release May 27, 2016.
Next is “Suicide Squad,” which will be in theatres Aug. 5. The Suicide Squad is a group of imprisoned villains such as Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie), Rick Flag (Tom Hardy), Boomerang (Jai Courtney), Deadshot (Will Smith), and others who are sent on dangerous missions to kill other bad guys in exchange for a shorter sentence.
Also appearing in the movie will be The Joker (Jared Leto) and Enchantress (Cara Delevingne). Viola Davis is rumored to be playing Amanda Waller, and Jesse Eisenberg is rumored to be cast as Lex Luthor.
Near the end of 2016, Marvel will release the first movie adaptation of “Doctor Strange.”
The movie will follow Stephen Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch), a surgeon who has lost his job and is now being trained by a sorcerer to defend the world against evil.
The movie will be released Nov. 4, 2016.
Last but not least, releasing only eight days after “Doctor Strange” on Nov. 11, Marvel’s “The Sinister Six” will be coming to theatres.
There is not much information on the movie, and no cast has been set at this time. All we know is that it will follow six super villains who band together to destroy New York City and Spiderman.
It looks like the future is going to be filled with action, capes, heroes and villains, and lots of suspense.
