Taylor Swift’s greed costs fans on Spotify

Most of us would not admit it, but almost all of The Californian editorial staff loves Taylor Swift.

So one can imagine the pain we were all viciously thrown in to when we logged on to The Californian’s Spotify account on Nov. 3 and saw that ALL of her music was gone.

Following the release of her newest album, “1989,” Swift felt it necessary to take all of her albums off Spotify, stating that she doesn’t want anybody to be able to listen to her music without paying for it.

This bold move has basically had the media talking for weeks on end. Swift’s decision to take a stand against Spotify is one of the single most debated topics in the music industry right now.

We at The Californian have a message to give directly to Ms. Swift herself regarding this decision, “HOW COULD YOU DO THIS TO US!?!”

As avid fans of her music, we find it absolutely ridiculous that she feels strongly about whether somebody can listen to her music for free.

“1989” sold 1.2 million copies in the first week of release and have continued to climb at an alarming rate since then.

Her net worth is estimated to be around $200 million, an amount practically unheard of for someone who is 24.

Her recent rise in popularity has caused her to be associated with artists such as Elvis Presley, The Beatles and Michael Jackson.

Swift is in no need of money for any reason whatsoever.

Her “revolutionary” decision to remove her music from Spotify is one that stems purely from her ego and greed.

While she can rant about the artistic nature of her music for days, or go on endlessly about the importance of the protection of intellectual property, it is not hard to see her true motives.

Truth be told, Swift is rolling in dough, and now, she is rolling in the tears of her dedicated fans. Not just the fan girls who wear only T-Swizzle’s merchandise, but those who actually liked her music for its musicality and lyricism.

Any respectable fan base that she had is now gone, and she has been simply reduced to another Katy Perry or Miley Cyrus.

So are you happy now Taylor!?! You’ve sold your soul only in return for a small profit. We tried to take you seriously for once and this is what you do in return.
