Anchorman Delivers
World famous Anchorman Ron Burgundy has returned to his ever growing legacy in “Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues.”
It’s been several years after the events of the last film. Ron (Will Ferrell) and the gang have gone their separate ways. After Ron was fired from his job as an anchorman for his sloppy and crude on-air mannerisms, he meets up with an agent working for the Global News Network who wants him and the team to get back together.
We quickly learn that many of the characters have hit all new lows, Champ (David Koechner) opens up a restaurant that serves fried bats instead of chicken, Brian (Paul Rudd) has become a calendar photographer, and Brick (Steve Carell) seems to think that he has died.
After rounding up the gang and heading to New York, Ron goes head to head with the other news anchors while dealingl with corruption within the newsroom regarding yellow journalism and sensationalism.
Koechner, Rudd and Carell all return to their roles from the original film and everyone seems to fit right back into their characters with ease, giving them life and flare as powerful as ever.
The movie feels fresh for the most part as they go with a different story rather than the common copy-and-paste attitude many comedic film writers have taken over the years, such as “The Hangover” trilogy or “Scary Movie” series. Most of the comedic material is new, with few jokes being reused from the last film.
The only major issues I had with the film are that the plot goes all over the place at points, as there are numerous subplots the film tries to address at the worst moments, such as Brick’s love interest or Ron’s relationship with his son. The other issue I have with the film is that while the story may have enough differences from its predecessor to define itself as its own film, it still follows a relatively similar framework in its plot structure to the first one.
Ultimately “Anchorman 2” is a worthwhile film. To call the film hilarious would be an understatement. I give “Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues” 3 out of 4 Grizzly paws.
