One day, many Cal High students will look back on the outfits they wore to school and cringe with embarrassment.
Why? Many students choose to participate in fashion trends so ridiculous it brings their mental sanity into question.
The first step students need to take to avoiding a fashion faux pas is making sure their clothing actually fits.
“I can’t stand it when girls wear shorts that are two sizes too small for them,” says sophomore Fatima Khan. “It looks terrible.”
Many girls on campus are guilty of wearing shorts and tops that look like they were designed to fit a toddler. These students would look much less insane if they simply bought clothes that fit them well.
“I’ve seen some guys wear socks with sandals,” said junior Brenda Shanahan. “That’s never going to be okay to wear.”
Socks with sandals is easily one of the most cringe-worthy trends of all time. Not only students, but even some teachers as well can be seen sporting this look on campus.
“I hate it when girls wear Ugg boots with shorts,” said junior Kailey Counts.
Not only does this outfit look strange, but it makes no sense in relation to the temperature. It was cold, so you decided to wear Uggs? Or it was hot, so you decided to wear shorts? It’s also worth mentioning that this outfit can be made even worse by wearing sparkly or pink Uggs instead of the regular ones.
“The worst trend at Cal is definitely high Nike socks,” said sophomore Saif Khan, referring to the Nike elite tube socks that come in different colors and have the Nike logo on them.
For some reason, many high school boys feel the need to wear these every single day of the week. Although these are currently considered “cool,” one day many students will wonder why they thought it was a good idea to wear purple mid-length socks.
One of the most hated trends of this year is patterned leggings, according to examiner.com. Patterned legging trends are getting more and more ridiculous.
The patterns range from crosses and polka dots to cats and lollipops. As silly as these might sound, many Cal students wear leggings with outlandish prints on them year round.
“I’m not a fan of the whole flower crown thing that’s been popular these days,” senior Noreen Brarr said of the trend that involves putting flowers in a circle around one’s head.
No one is sure why students feel the need to wear flowers in their hair to school.
Another fashion faux pas worth mentioning is a fedora, which is a hat that is creased lengthwise down the crown and pinched in the front on both sides. These hats are most commonly worn in black, yet can be ordered in any pattern or color.
No matter the color, they are completely unflattering. While some students wear fedoras to come across as “cool” or “hipster,” it usually looks like something a bad detective or fat guy on the Internet would wear.
One needs only to step into a classroom for a few minutes before seeing multiple teens dressed in ridiculous outfits.
The First Amendment grants students the freedom to dress however we please. So if students really like a trend, they should be able to wear it with confidence and pride. As long as that trend is not Crocs.
