The women’s volleyball team has been phenomenal this season, winning the EBAL title with a 13-1 league record.
The Grizzlies (27-3 overall) earned the top seed in the NCS playoffs and they are now playing in the NCS Championship game against No. 2 San Ramon Valley at Cal on Saturday at 7 pm.
The last time the Grizzlies won NCS was in 1982.
“We expect to win,” said senior Tracy Ogata.
The team defeated No. 4 Monte Vista, 25-16, 25, 23, in the semifinals on Wednesday. The Grizzlies also beat No. 9 Berkeley, 25-14, 25-22, 25-14, in the quarterfinals on Saturday.
“If we play like we have all year there isn’t a team in Division 1 that we feel can play with us,” said coach Todd Baham.
The Grizzlies have received great play out of senior Sabrina Clayton, who has been the team’s top player this season and has been one of the best players in all of EBAL.
Other than the great play out of their top players, team chemistry has had a lot to do with the team’s success.
“We all get along so well and we have good team chemistry,” said Ogata, noting the team has enjoyed its pregame rituals together that include playing songs and praying.
The team finished the regular season by beating Carondelet on Nov. 1. Clayton led the team with 19 kills and nine digs, and senior Jennifer Gill had 11 kills and seven digs.
