For the first time since 1962, a Game 7 will be played in San Francisco. The Giants are looking to win their sixth straight elimination game dating back to their series v.s. the Reds.
The Cardinals have been just as good as the Giants in elimination games. They have won five straight elimination games including their amazing comeback against Washington in Game 5 of the NLDS.
The Giants have their ace pitching tonight. Matt Cain has only been decent in his first three starts in the postseason, but he won the must-win start vs. the Reds. The Cardinals will have Kyle Lohse pitching tonight. Lohse has been their best pitcher this year and he will be a tough task for the Giants.
The Giants could look to the bullpen to finish the game if Cain struggles early. Their bullpen has been given a lot of rest from an off day and the terrific Game 6 performance by Ryan Vogelsong.
The Giants may win this game just because of the Cardinals defense. This postseason they have given up 12 unearned runs and 10 of those have come against the Giants.
The Detroit Tigers, who are waiting to find out who they play, will be coming off five days of rest. They will head to St. Louis or San Francisco, depending on who wins Game 7. Either way, it will be a tough task for the Tigers, who boast the AL Triple Crown winner in Miguel Cabrera and reigning AL MVP and Cy Young winner Justin Verlander.
