The Bay Area is a hot location for concerts in November and December. There are many great shows for fans of any type of music.
First up is Two Door Cinema Club, a unique band all the way from Bangor, Ireland. Their music is described as “alteronica” and has been compared to Death Cab for Cutie, The Postal Service, and Broken Social Scene.
All three band members sing and pair their vocals with guitar riffs and rhythms critics have described as “oceanic” and “pulsing.”
“Their music is catchy,” said senior Caitlin Schaible.
Two Door Cinema Club will play at Slim’s in San Fransisco this Thursday.
Florence and the Machine, a band that hails from the U.K., is also coming to the Bay Area.
Lead singer Florence Welch has a unique voice that gives the band’s music a distinct sound different from the mainstream bands.
In an interview with Q Magazine, she said she wants their music to have some memorable themes, such as sex, death, love, violence that will still be part of the human story in 200 years’ time.
Their album “Lungs” debuted July 2009 and held the No. 2 position for its first five weeks in the U.K. Album Chart, according to billboard.com.
Florence and the Machine will be playing at the Fox Theater in Oakland this Friday.
Usher and Trey Songz are two well known R&B and hip-hop singers who can make anyone want to dance.
Usher released his sixth studio album “Raymond vs. Raymond” earlier this year and an EP titled “Versus” last August.
Trey Songz also recently released his fourth album “Passion, Pain, and Pleasure” in September.
Fans of the two artists have been hoping for them to tour together someday.
“I’ve been looking forward to this concert for so long,” said senior Sarah Ledford. “It’s going to be amazing, and Usher is a god.”
Usher and Trey Songz will rock the Oracle Arena for the OMG Tour on Nov. 12.
Next on the lineup is Pretty Lights, an electronic music duo from Colorado consisting of Derek Vincent Smith and Adam Deitch. Their music crosses many genres and has helped to set the trend of electronic music.
“The song ‘Finally Moving’ has the best vibes that just go with any mood you have when you’re listening to it,” said senior Kaila Gruezo.
Pretty Lights is playing at the Fox Theater in Oakland on Nov. 24.
Weezer is an alternative rock band formed in 1992 that has sold more than 9 million records in the U.S. to date, according to RIAA.com.
The band’s latest album “Hurley” was released in September and they are planning their ninth studio release in 2011.
“I’m excited for Weezer to come back to town,” senior Jonny Grishpul said. “I heard they’re going to be playing the whole ‘Blue’ album.”
The “Blue” album was Weezer’s debut album, released in 1994. Weezer will be at the Masonic Auditorium in San Francisco Nov 29-30.
Bassnectar is an artist part of a genre called dubstep, consisting of bass and drum beats that are loud and booming.
Bassnectar released the EP “Wildstyle” last month and fans can’t wait to hear the new tracks played at his concert.
“I love Bassnectar. Dubstep in general makes me happy inside. It gives me funny tingles,” said senior Terence Gieg.
Bassnectar is going to be at the Fox Theater in Oakland on Dec. 11.
