Cal High students now have the chance to fulfill their wildest dreams and be on national TV.

The popular MTV reality show “Made,” launched in 2002, visited campus on March 26. The visit was highly anticipated by students looking to achieve their dream career.

On the show, now entering its 10th season, teenagers are guided by a “Made Coach,” who helps them to see their goals fulfilled. The “Made Coach” is usually a person in that dream career field.

Guest stars of past seasons have included skateboarder Tony Hawk, rapper Snoop Dogg and stage actress Shoshana Bean.

“The goal of the show has a great cause: to help teens reach their goals,” said junior Melanie Bottini, who hopes to be made into a model. “I wanted to do it because I think it would boost my confidence for the future.”

More than 30 students crowded into the Fine Arts building after school to be interviewed with a variety of goals. While some were just trying out for fun, others had practical reasons.

Senior Allyssa Yohana, hoping to be made into a musician, wanted to participate to take her mind off the daily grind of teenage life.

“It would be a nice little distraction,” said Allyssa. “To try something new.”

Students filled out a questionnaire about their goals and reasons for wanting to be on the show, before sitting down for an interview.

The show sought students who could bring something colorful and unique to the show, and stood out among the countless teenagers who wanted to participate.

Not every student wanted to be made into a singer or actor.

“I decided to try because it sounded like an interesting experience,” said sophomore Paige Cummings, an aspiring TV writer.

Students will be informed at a later date if they were selected to participate in the show that won “Outstanding Special Class Series” at the 34th Daytime Emmy Awards in 2007.
